Priorities

Lordship

Scripture says quite a bit about this issue of prioritizing our lives as we live under the lordship of Jesus Christ. Matthew 6:33, reminds us to "seek first His kingdom and all these things will be added to us." In other words, we are to set our mind on the things above and not to be all caught up in the things of the world. The Word tells us over and over that the Christian is only passing through this world, and that we have a home that is eternal, not made with human hands. The question that the Holy Spirit continues to ask me is, ‘Are you living that way'? Are we looking at the concerns and affairs that we are engaged in as things that have eternal dividends or redecorating the rooms on the Titanic?

I Corinthians 3:12 is another challenging passage that causes us to question our life as to what we build in this life. It compares our work to gold, silver, precious metals or wood, hay, and stubble. This sobering truth tells us that what we build in this life will be burned up or it will last forever. The Lord will test the quality of our work not quantity. We must be careful because we only have one life. We can't come back and do it over. Write down the things that you do on a daily or weekly basis and evaluate whether they will be burned or last. I am forced to admit to myself that most of my life has been lived for self and not solely for the glory of God. That does not mean that some good things have not been accomplished for the Lord, but that I must take a long hard look at my time and activities. I must look at things that I have done for wrong reasons and were void of the Lord's planning or orchestration. God forgive me.

According to the Word of God only two things last forever, that is the WORD itself, Isaiah 40:8, and PEOPLE Jn3:16, lim. 1:16. When we access our priorities and the quality of our work these two priorities of God need to be put at the top of the list. Is daily consumption of the Word a part of your life or has sports, work, the TV, computer etc. robbed you of eternal gold, silver and precious metals? What about people? Do you see that waitress in hell? Are you pouring your life into your children? Do the people at work see an attitude of patience, thoughtfulness, and excellence or an Archie Bunker rerun?

Each day we need to petition the Father for His plan. He has given us a book that is a light for the path (Ps 119:105). Neglecting the Word to receive our direction for the week is like not investing in eternal gold, and wasting this 168 hours on what we think is good. This is why we have a personal Lord and Savior. He directs us individually. He has some unbelievable blessings awaiting (l Cor 2:9)

People matter to God. Do they matter to you? Are they a nuisance? Who have you shared the Gospel. Priorities- the Word of God and People.
