Signs
of Real Christianity
Romans
6:1-7
Galatians 2:20
God in His wisdom did not give individuals the ability to see into another person's heart so it is very difficult to determine if a person is a "real Christian". It seems that the early church took their Christianity more seriously than we find in our churches today. What is the difference? Some people declare themselves to be Christians because they believe in Jesus or the Bible, but the devil believes also(James 2:19). Today, too many call themselves Christians because they attend church or help people.
A real Christian asks the question, Am I dead?'; not just did Jesus die for me'. Romans 6:1-7 and Galatians 2:20 say that we are dead. We die the moment we identify ourselves by saving faith with our Savior and Lord. Martin Luther said, "The old man' dies hard." I see many Christians walking around with their head held high saying, "look at me". Our old nature wants to fight for our selfish rights and reputation, but self belongs on the cross. Now all of us battle the monster of pride and living for self, however, the real Christian can honestly admit it and turn to live for the glory of God. Some of our Madison Avenue approach to ministry has to go out the window in order for the Holy Spirit to lead and empower our lives. Why are so many Christians failing to rejoice in the wonder of our indwelling Christ? They are afraid to make Jesus absolute Lord by throwing open every door of their house (life) in which they live. They don't want Him to be at home in their hearts. Living for one's own glory is the telltale proof of whether we are "real" or not. If you are not living to the glory of God then you are living for your own glory. Prominence is not wrong -if God exalts you, however the scripture says, "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble(James 4:6). There isn't much time left take a hard look at your life.
Are you truly dead?
Are you identified with Christ through His saving grace? Are there "doors" in your heart that you are unwilling to open wide for him to dwell and control?
Does your life look like all the other lives who call themselves Christians?
What sets you apart?
Is there anything in your life (past or present) that has happened or is happening that can only be explained by the Holy Spirit?
In what ways is the smell of death on your life? (Proof that you are crucified)
How is God being glorified by your life?
How do you explain Hebrews 11:6 in reference to your life?
"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
